Accessibility Statement
Updated July 24, 2026
Our Goal
We at Explore Washington Park strive to make our website user-friendly and accessible to people of all abilities.
To ensure a positive experience for everyone, we adhere to the WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) 2.1 and 2.2. These guidelines are the main international standards and outline how to make web content accessible.
The guidelines outline three levels of accessibility; Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. Explore Washington Park targets Level AA whenever possible for our website and products.
Our Level AA accessibility compliance allows for assistive technology such as plugins, screen readers, braille displays, and browser extensions to be used by individuals to add additional functionality of their choosing.
Conformance Status
This website conforms with WCAG 2.1 Level AA.
Accessibility Efforts & Disclaimer
We're committed to continually improving the accessibility of our website and services. This dedication stems from the belief that fostering a seamless, inclusive, and barrier-free experience for individuals with disabilities is a collective ethical responsibility.
We have worked with Access Designs LLC to obtain a full website audit. They provided us a detailed report of accessibility issues that were remediated by Kristine Neil LLC.
We do want to point out that we have a number of purely decorative images throughout our website. We have worked to ensure those are properly coded and that only important images have alternative text for our users to engage with.
Throughout the Accessibility page, some accessibility descriptions include optional image tooltips. These images are intended to give sighted visitors an additional visual reference of certain areas, such as paths, parking areas, entrances, or restrooms. The key accessibility information from these images is already included in the written text. Visitors using screen readers are not missing separate instructions or details if the tooltip image itself is not announced.
We have several different types of interactive and digital maps throughout our website. We have worked hard to make them as accessible as possible. We understand that it may not be fully accessible for users of certain disabilities. If you need help with directions to the park please contact us at 503-319-0999.
PDFs and downloadable documents published in 2025 or later have been reviewed and remediated for accessibility. Documents published before 2025 are considered archived materials. These older documents remain available online for reference, but they are not currently part of our active remediation work. If you need help accessing information in an archived document, please contact us at info@explorewashingtonpark.org and we will do our best to provide the information in an accessible format.
We were also made aware of issues due to the backend coding of our website host that is out of our control. Those issues have been sent to the appropriate company and are noted below for your reference.
This website uses Squarespace as its website platform. Some features, including the native Squarespace donation block, have accessibility limitations that cannot be fully controlled or customized by the site owner.
The donation block is keyboard accessible and can be used with a screen reader to select a donation amount, choose a donation frequency, and continue to checkout. However, the donation amount and frequency controls do not currently include proper form labels in the underlying platform markup. While these controls are announced and operable during testing, the labeling structure does not fully meet preferred accessibility standards.
We will continue to monitor Squarespace updates and review available options if improved donation form accessibility becomes available.
We consistently work towards improving the accessibility of every page and material on our website. It's worth noting that certain content may not have fully met accessibility standards yet. This could be because we're still in the process of identifying the most effective solutions to enhance the user experience.
Third-Party Content & Functionality
We sometimes utilize third-party resources to embed content on our website. We do our best to work with companies committed to digital accessibility, but ultimately do not have control over their software and/or hardware.
To power our event listings, we partner with Eventually, a platform actively working on continuous accessibility improvements. If you encounter any barriers or have trouble accessing event details on our website, please reach out to us. We are happy to help! You can connect with our team at info@explorewashingtonpark.org or call us at 503-319-0999.
