Temporary Weekday Closure of Discovery Museum
World Forestry Center will temporarily close the Discovery Museum to the public Monday through Friday, from July 21 to August 18, to replace the building’s original skylight. The temporary weekday closure applies to the Discovery Museum only. World Forestry Center’s event rental spaces will remain available during this period, and scheduled private events will continue as planned.
The Discovery Museum will remain open on weekends, from 10am to 4pm, during this period.
Washington Park Reservoir Improvement Project
The Portland Water Bureau (PWB) recently replaced reservoirs built in 1894 with a new 12.4-million-gallon, seismically reinforced underground reservoir. Construction is ongoing and the Washington Park Reservoir site is still not ready for permanent public access. Crews are working hard to finish several items before PWB can open this space to the public. When construction is finished, Washington Park will be home to not only a new reservoir, but also a cascading water feature, reflecting pool, and lowland wildlife habitat area. It’s hard to tell from the road, but crews are working on the larger area below the reflecting pool site to address several items that need attention before the site can be safely opened to the public. This includes eliminating pedestrian hazards, installing safety features, and continuing the work on the hypochlorite system and reflecting pool pumps.
