Iconic Hike to Pittock Mansion
Begin your visit at the Hoyt Arboretum Visitor Center, where you can grab a snack and a trail map to orient yourself before heading out. Follow connecting trails through the Arboretum to reach the Wildwood Trail, making an early stop at the Redwood Deck—one of the Park’s most striking viewpoints, set among towering redwoods.
Continue north along the Wildwood Trail to Barbara Walker Crossing, an iconic pedestrian bridge that carries the trail safely over W Burnside St and creates a continuous, car-free connection between Washington Park and Forest Park. From here, the route gradually climbs through dense forest, gaining elevation as you make your way toward Pittock Mansion.
Finish at Pittock Mansion, originally built in 1914 as the private home of newspaper publisher Henry Pittock and his wife, and now one of Portland’s most recognizable historic landmarks. Take time to explore the grounds and enjoy sweeping views of downtown and Mt. Hood, a rewarding end to a hike that blends forest, history, and some of the city’s most iconic scenery.
